A Florida man named Daniel Waterman died of pneumonia on October 8, after spending months in a coma following a car crash in February. Following Waterman's death, his girlfriend, Leigha Mumby, was charged with vehicular homicide on October 24.According to People, Waterman sustained severe injuries in a car crash that took place on February 9 this year. However, in May, Daniel Waterman woke from a coma and implicated his girlfriend in the crash.Pop culture podcaster Perez Hilton covered the incident and shared his reaction in his October 30 blog. Hilton reported that Daniel Waterman's family also sought legal custody of the unborn child with whom Mumby was pregnant at the time of the crash. She was charged with reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Citing TooFab, Perez Hilton reported that Mumby was released from Flagler County Jail on a $25,000 bond in July.He mentioned that after Waterman's death, an additional charge of vehicular manslaughter was added. She would be appearing in court for her pre-trial on November 19.Perez Hilton shared further details about Daniel Waterman's caseCiting several media reports, the blogger noted that on February 9 this year, Daniel Waterman and Leigha Mumby were travelling in a car at a high speed in Flagler County, Florida. Notably, earlier in the day, Mumby found out that she was pregnant. Waterman's mother told an outlet that they were arguing after her son received a text message from a female friend about the Super Bowl. Daniel Waterman's girlfriend reportedly became infuriated over the message.Perez Hilton mentioned that the situation escalated and Mumby "got so reckless" while driving. Waterman reportedly attempted to jump out of the car when it reached a speed of "50 mph." However, she accelerated even more while arguing.During his May confession to authorities, Daniel Waterman alleged that while driving, his girlfriend said:"I don’t care what happens, you’ll get what you deserve."The car eventually crashed into a tree, leaving both injured. Citing Post-Standard, Perez Hilton reported that later investigators found that the car was "accelerated" before the collision happened. Waterman was diagnosed with multiple fractures throughout his body and later on went into a coma. Mumby was also hospitalized but recovered in a few days. She told the authorities that "she did not know" what happened before the crash and only remembered "waking up in pain."Months after being in a coma, Waterman woke up and gave his confession to police in May. He was reportedly not in condition to speak and could only point out the letters that he wanted to use to convey his message. "In total, it took about 90 minutes for Daniel to get the point across—again, without speaking at all — that the crash was NOT an accident," Hilton wrote.Following his statement, police charged Mumby in July. Waterman’s health was slowly improving, as per his mother. However, earlier this month, Waterman caught pneumonia.
