"Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has praised Indian PM Narendra Modi for his early understanding of artificial intelligence.Advertisment Speaking in Mumbai during the Nvidia AI Summit 2024, Huang said Modi showed rare foresight by making AI a national topic years before other countries did. PM Modi"s Early Interest in Artificial Intelligence During a public talk with Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani at the Nvidia AI Summit, Huang recalled his first meeting with PM Modi about six years ago. “The thing that I really love is, when I met Modi ji the first time he asked me to meet his cabinet, this has gotta be about six years ago, he asked me to address his cabinet about artificial intelligence," Huang said. He added, “I was so surprised it was literally the first time any national leader asked me to address his cabinet on AI.” Huang noted, “It was long before anybody was talking about artificial intelligence,” calling Modi"s early step a sign of strong awareness about how important AI would become. He said Modi clearly understood why India must build its own AI systems. “I was explaining to him the concept of AI infrastructure and why it"s essential for every nation to have their own AI infrastructure,” Huang said. “Like their own communication, their internet infrastructure, their roads, their energy. And of course, intelligence should be part of your infrastructure.” He continued, “And he said that it makes complete sense that India should manufacture its own AI. You should not outsource, you should not export data to import intelligence.
