Kathryn Bigelow is supportive of the talk surrounding A House of Dynamite. After Bloomberg disclosed in a report on October 25, 2025, that a memo had been circulated internally that questioned the film's accuracy, the director of photography reacted to recent criticism from the Pentagon about the movie's depiction of the United States' nuclear missile defense system. According to the memo, the film characterizes the US system as being able to intercept a nuclear missile only half of the time. In this context, the coin toss corresponds to a 50 percent probability of success. The opposite party i.e. the Pentagon, however, claims that the system has achieved a 100 percent accuracy rate in testing for more than a decade. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on October 28, 2025, Kathryn Bigelow reacted to the criticism surrounding the movie and said, "We live in a really combustible environment, hence the title — we live in A House of Dynamite. The unthinkable — it’s time to address it and, in a perfect world, begin discussions about reducing the nuclear stockpile."What did Kathryn Bigelow say about the criticisms of A House of Dynamite?A House of Dynamite (Image Via Netflix)Kathryn Bigelow told The Hollywood Reporter on October 28, 2025, that the film creating a conversation about nuclear policy is something she appreciated. “It’s interesting. In a perfect world, culture has the potential to drive policy — and if there’s dialogue around the proliferation of nuclear weapons, that is music to my ears, certainly" she said. The director, who was previously embroiled in a controversy concerning the authenticity of Zero Dark Thirty, remarked that she recognizes and, therefore, accepts confrontation around her works, especially when it leads to awareness and positive change. The views of screenwriter Noah Oppenheim were similar to those of Bigelow. He mentioned in the same interview that their intention was not to contradict the Pentagon directly but only to reflect the conversations among specialists that are taking place in reality. According to Oppenheim as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, "Kathryn and I wanted the movie to invite the audience to lean in the end, to not kind of give anyone an easy out or tie it up with a bow. We wanted to instigate reflection and conversation, and we both give a lot of credit to Netflix for letting Kathryn make the movie that she envisioned from the very beginning. He further elaborated, "As the ending is driving people to talk more about this subject, it’s exactly what we hoped for."Oppenheim also mentioned that both he and Bigelow undertook lots of research and interviews before they were able to link their film with the real-world phenomena. Besides, Bigelow linked the movie's success to its timeliness. Oppenheim emphasized that Netflix’s global reach has played a major role in spreading that message. “The power of the Netflix platform in terms of its ability to reach an audience all over the world and drive a conversation, that’s extraordinary,” he said.Read More: 6 Inspiring Movies to Watch If You Liked 27 NightsWhat is A House of Dynamite about?
