Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has lauded Varun Chakaravarthy for bowling a potent spell in the second T20I against Australia. He noted that the mystery spinner's dismissal of Travis Head was similar to the way he got the Australian opener out in the Champions Trophy 2025.India were bowled out for 125 in the second T20I against Australia in Melbourne on Friday, October 31. Although Chakaravarthy registered figures of 2/23 in four overs during the chase, the hosts achieved the target with four wickets and 40 deliveries to spare.During a discussion on Star Sports, Parthiv was asked about his thoughts on Chakaravarthy's spell."He got Travis Head out at long-off only in the Champions Trophy, but here the ball went a little far. However, the way he is bowling, he bowls stump to stump, and that's his strength because if you mistime it, he would get a wicket," he responded.While observing that Tim David was totally deceived by Chakaravarthy, the former India wicketkeeper-batter also praised Jasprit Bumrah for castling Matthew Short with an impeccable yorker."I feel he dismissed Tim David brilliantly. A short-leg fielder was placed. So he tried to defend with a straight bat. After that, Jasprit Bumrah bowled an incredible yorker. We haven't seen that for the first time. However, overall, the runs were very less, and when runs are less, you try too hard, and because of that, the pressure wasn't created at the start," Parthiv noted.Varun Chakaravarthy had Travis Head brilliantly caught by Tilak Varma for a 15-ball 28. [P/C: Getty]Speaking on Star Sports, former India pacer Varun Aaron praised Varun Chakaravarthy for bowling fast and at the right lengths."His pace was on point. He didn't give too much to the batsmen. He was way back of length. That's where you want to be on these big square boundaries, and he wanted to be fast. He bowled one ball at 119 kph. That's fast even for a slow fast bowler," he said.The cricketer-turned-commentator termed the Tamil Nadu bowler a complete T20 spinner because of the variations he possesses."So when you have that range, where you can go from about 85 kph to 111-119 kph, it's very difficult for a batsman to line you up. And then again, he bowls a really good slower googly, lures the batsman in. Just a complete T20 spinner," Aaron observed.Varun Chakaravarthy has picked up 42 wickets at an economy rate of 6.84 in 25 T20I innings. He has accounted for 164 dismissals in 125 T20 innings while conceding an average of 7.36 runs per over.
