Distressing time for residents and staff as Ayrshire care home is to close its doors

Suncourt Care Home in Troon’s Crosbie Road is to close, the local authority’s health and social care partnership has tonight confirmed. The home was placed under the microscope in May when it was subject to an unannounced inspection on the service it provides. At the time care scrutiny bosses graded the home ‘weak’ across four quality indicators and ‘good’ across one other. But there was no indication at the time that the care home would close its doors, only requirements set out by the Care Inspectorate to drive forward improvements. In their last report the Care Inspectorate warned: “Whilst we identified some strengths, these were compromised by significant weaknesses. " Ayrshire Live has today learned, though, that bosses have taken the “incredibly hard decision” to close the home. It is unclear at this stage how many residents and staff will be affected by the closure, but the home was registered to look after a maximum of 44 older people, some with dementia and/or complex mobility issues. A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership said: “The South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership have been notified of the decision to close Suncourt Care Home in Troon. “We are in early stages of discussions with the provider to support them, their staff and their residents in this difficult time. “We are aware that changes of this nature can be distressing for residents and their loved ones, we would like to assure them that we will work with the provider to ensure that there is as smooth a transition as possible to ensure their individual care needs are met.” A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate added: “Any service wishing to cancel their registration must formally notify the Care Inspectorate.” Nicola Ferguson, Operations Director at Kilmarnock-based firm Thorntoun Ltd, issued a statement tonight which read: "We can confirm that Suncourt House will close on 24 January 2026. "We are working closely with the South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership to ensure a smooth and sensitive transition for all residents. "Each individual and their families are being fully supported to identify and move to alternative suitable accommodation that meets their needs and preferences. "Staff have been informed and are being supported throughout this process, with opportunities for redeployment being explored wherever possible. "Our priority remains the wellbeing of residents and staff, and we are committed to ensuring that all changes are managed with care, compassion, and respect."
