Podcaster and blogger Perez Hilton discussed the tragic death of an American father and son who were fatally stung by hornets while on vacation.According to a report by The Times, an Idaho man named Daniel Owen went on a vacation with his son Cooper in Laos. The two were stung by a swarm of hornets while ziplining. Owen and his son rushed to a clinic for treatment, but succumbed to hornets' attack hours later. Citing The Times, Perez Hilton reported that Daniel Owen visited Green Jungle Park near the city of Luang Prabang with his son for a ziplining activity. During their descent, they reportedly encountered hundreds of Asian giant hornets, which stung them badly. They were rushed to Phakan Arocavet Clinic for treatment. The podcaster noted that the two were "conscious" and "showed no signs of anaphylactic shock" when they reached the medical center. The father-son duo was transferred to the Luang Prabang provincial hospital later, where they were declared dead. Perez Hilton mentioned that a guide was also present with Owen and his son on the zipline. However, it was not clear if the guide was also injured in the incident.Perez Hilton shares several statements released after Owen and his son's deathsPerez Hilton shared that Doctor Phanomsay Phakan, who was at the clinic where the father and son were rushed initially, talked to The Times. While describing their condition, the doctor said that it was a rare incident and he had never seen such deaths in his career."Bodies were covered in red spots... It was very, very painful. A lot of stings, more than 100, over the whole body. I already thought that it’s a very dangerous situation because I had never seen it as bad as that... I have never seen a death and I have been working more than 20 years," the doctor told the media outlet.The US Department of State spokesperson also confirmed the deaths of Owen and his son to People. However, citing the mourning family's privacy, the spokesperson refused to share more details."Out of respect for the privacy of the family and loved ones during this difficult time, we have no further comment," the spokesperson told People.Perez Hilton wrote in his blog that Daniel Owen worked as the director of Vietnam's QSI International School. The institute, located in Haiphong, also released a statement on October 28 on Facebook, paying tribute to their late director.“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dan Owen, Director of QSI International School of Haiphong, and his son Cooper, due to a tragic accident. Dan dedicated 18 years to QSI, serving in five different schools and touching countless lives with his warmth, leadership, and unwavering commitment to education. He was deeply loved across our community and will be profoundly missed. Our sincere condolences go out to the Owen family and all who knew and loved them." the post read.Perez Hilton concluded his blog by offering sympathies to Owen's family.A representative to the park, where the incident took place, also spoke to The Times and conveyed condolences to Owen's family. The spokesperson described the incident as "unforeseeable and extraordinary natural," noting that it never happened in their park.
